A new Acme supermarket will soon be coming to South Philadelphia's Snyder Plaza, providing residents with another bulk shopping option and expanding the market's footprint to 14 within city limits.

Acme Markets and real estate developer The Goldenberg Group announced Thursday that a lease has been signed to construct a new full-line grocery store in the shopping center, replacing the ShopRite that formerly joined shops including Modell's Sporting Goods, Payless ShoeSource and OshKosh B'gosh.

“Our new store will welcome our Pennsport, Whitman and Center City neighbors and we are thrilled to offer them a fantastic new shopping experience,” said Dan Croce, president of Acme. “From our product selection to the design and layout of the store, our goal will be to provide our customers with excellent service, convenience, and variety. We look forward to our opening next year and bringing the best of Acme to the community for many years to come.”

The new store, part of The Goldenberg Group's multiyear plan to improve Snyder Plaza, will take its place just blocks away from the Target on Snyder Avenue, located just off I-95 and Columbus Boulevard. Target has also been active in Philadelphia, opening a Center City store last summer and announcing plans for locations in Fairmount and Roxborough.

Acme currently has four locations in South Philadelphia, one in Northern Liberties, four in Northeast Philadelphia and another four in northwest Philadelphia and on the Main Line.

“We couldn’t be more excited to welcome Acme to its new home at Snyder Plaza, and we’re confident that its full line of offerings will make this a beacon location in the city for supermarket shopping," said Adam Rosenzweig, senior vice president of leasing & asset management for The Goldenberg Group.

The new store at 29 Snyder Ave. is slated to open in the summer of 2017.
