The Costume Dash 5k/10k is coming Philadelphia Halloween weekend.

Updated Tuesday, Oct. 18 at 1:45 p.m.: The event has been cancelled. According to the event Facebook page, the reason is "an unforeseen permitting issue with the city of Philadelphia." Registration will be refunded in full

A few days before Halloween 2016, the first annual Philadelphia Costume Dash will take place on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. Participants are invited to dress up in a Halloween costume to run in a 5k or 10k.

Registration is currently open for both Oct. 29 races.

Costumes aren't mandatory, but this is one of few times that dressing normally will probably trigger a few weird looks from those around you. Afterward, there is a prize for best costume worn during the race (Here's hoping a group competes as the complete "Stranger Things" cast).

There will also be an after-party at Schuylkill Banks Pavilion, followed by a pub crawl starting at The Bishop's Collar in Fairmount.

Start time for the race is 8:30 a.m. Prizes will be given to the top three male and female runners, along with prizes for top runners in various age categories. All finishers will receive a medal.

The American Cancer Society is the official charity partner of the Philadelphia Costume Dash.
