Independence Hall in Old City Philadelphia.

In the aftermath of a series of recent events that have raised questions concerning police conduct and racial tension, a 'pro blue' rally Saturday on Independence Mall will show support for Philadelphia police officers. The event will feature several guest speakers including U.S. Sen. Pat Toomey, R-Pa., and former Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Garry Cobb.

The event's Facebook page gives a description of the event:

On January 10, 2015, 1-2 PM, Independence Hall Foundation will organize a rally at Independence Mall in support of the men and women in blue who don their uniforms everyday to ensure that our rights are protected. They are the first line of defense in securing our rights to life, liberty, and property.

Teri Adams, co-founder of the Independence Hall Foundation, told Joe Hernandez of NewsWorks more about the event:

"There's just been a lot of negativity about the police in the news recently. And we feel that some of it's been unfair and that we need to get out there and support our men and women in blue."

The rally comes just days before a march of nearly 10,000 people is expected on Center City Philadelphia for Martin Luther King Jr. Day in response to recent events in Ferguson, Mo. and Staten Island, N.Y. Hopefully, that protest goes as smoothly as recent rallies in Philadelphia in support of the 'Black Lives Matter' movement:
