Two Philadelphia spots named to America's 100 Best Wine Restaurants list

Two Center City restaurants were named to this year's America's 100 Best Wine Restaurant list.

Wine Enthusiast Magazine published its sixth annual list on Friday that "reflects the diversity of fantastic options for the wine-loving diner."

Vedge, located at 1221 Locust Street, and a.kitchen+bar, located at 135 South 18th Street, made the cut.

"This is a highly subjective collection reflecting Wine Enthusiast's dedication to not only legendary wine establishments but also those that are reflecting or pushing new and exciting trends in the market," said Susan Kostrzewa, Executive Editor.

The list did not rank restaurants, rather it categorized locales based on features and trends.

Vedge earned a spot on the "Amazing Laser-Focused Wine List" category, which highlighted restaurants "creating depth by narrowing focus, whether by region or philosophy":

"The proprietors of Vedge, perhaps the country’s best vegan restaurant, find natural wines to dovetail with both the cuisine and philosophy of the restaurant, and they’re thirsty to share global finds with diners. The by-the glass list changes weekly, winemaker dinners are frequent and servers are extremely knowledgeable."

a.kitchen+bar was placed in the "Not to be Missed" category, which recognized places that "range from much-fêted destinations to outstanding lesser-known neighborhood joints":

"A.kitchen’s wine and food share the same qualities: handcrafted and responsibly produced. Over the past year, it began hosting wine-focused events, “Wine Cru,” where guest sommeliers create themed rosters of wines that often include rare bottlings."

The full list can also be found in the August issue of Wine Enthusiast Magazine.
