Adaptability is a trait all triathletes must possess to finish their grueling test of strength and endurance, so it comes as no surprise the 17th annual Stampone Law Tri the Wildwoods Triathlon will still be held during the pandemic after a quick shift in focus was made with health and safety in mind.

Now in its first year as title sponsor, Stampone O’Brien Dilsheimer Law is proud to host the renowned Tri the Wildwoods event run by DelMo Sports. While moving the competition to an online platform is not ideal, sponsors and organizers felt it was best to keep some semblance of normalcy during these uncertain times and have the race continue in this form.

“We are constantly representing injured bikers, runners and other athletes, and this will be a nice opportunity for our firm to support them in their competitive pursuits,” said founder and managing shareholder, Joe Stampone, who has been a homeowner in Wildwood Crest since 1987. “As a member of the Wildwoods community, I can say we are disappointed the Tri won’t be held at the beach this year, but we are all determined to hear that starting gun in person next summer.”

The award-winning event, dubbed “The Best Triathlon on the Jersey Shore,” was set for a record turnout in Wildwood this year with thousands of entrants signed up for the triathlon, a 5k, and two kid’s fun runs. In addition to race prizes and giveaways, The Stampone O’Brien Dilsheimer Perseverance Award will be awarded to a participant of the kid’s fun run who tackles the challenging race through tenacity and willpower.

So how does a virtual triathlon work? It is recommended that participants use a smart watch or phone to record each leg of the race on their own, submitting times during the accepted window of Aug. 22 to Sept. 12. Athletes are highly encouraged to complete each leg on the same day, as if the race were held without a hitch. Photos and videos sent in by participants will be compiled into one epic highlight reel produced by DroneOne Aerial Technology, an aerial imaging company owned and operated by Joe Stampone’s son-in-law, Steve Zamulinsky.
