The mayor of Delaware County's Upland borough was arrested and charged with driving under the influence over the weekend after he reportedly hit at least one parked car and then tried to flee the scene.
6ABC reports the incident allegedly involving Upland Mayor Michael Ciach took place just after 3:30 a.m. on Friday when a witness called police to report a man had hit her relative's parked car in Chester, then left the scene on foot.
There are differing reports on how many vehicles were involved in the incident. The witness, Volonna Wright, said she didn’t know at the time that the man accused of being involved was Upland's mayor.
Responding police reportedly found Ciach walking about a block from the scene, and sources told 6ABC he was “struggling to stand straight and had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath.”
Ciach was taken into police custody and was later released on his own recognizance. His vehicle was towed from the scene.
