Eagles 2026 training camp practice notes, Day 10: Depth in the trenches is looking good

A deep look into the action on the field in south Philly as training camp continues.

Drew Kendall is having a very good training camp for the Eagles.

Day 10 of Philadelphia Eagles training camp is in the books, and we have a lot of observations about the Eagles' blockers, whether that's linemen, tight ends, or running backs. Let's just get to the notes.

• Both Vic Fangio and Jalen Carter said today that they believe that Jalen Hurts looks faster this summer. I tend to agree. He's certainly leaner. On one play Hurts ran to his right and was being chased from behind by Jalyx Hunt. Hunt went into a full-out sprint to catch Hurts, but he couldn't make up any ground and gave up.

The Eagles' offense had no shortage of issues in 2025, but I felt that Hurts' lack of running with the football was detrimental his overall performance and the performance of the Eagles' run game in general. A willingness to run more this season would go a long way toward helping improve the offense in numerous ways.

I also thought Hurts had a solid day throwing the football. The highlight of the day was a deep ball to the post that was caught for a long TD by Elijah Moore. Moore was streaking down the field from the slot, and he faked to the corner, turning Andre' Sam around and then broke to the post, getting wide open. Great route. Hurts also delivered a clean, easy throw that hit Moore in stride. Great looking play by the offense all around.

Saquon Barkley and Tank Bigsby could be a pretty nasty 1-2 combo if the Eagles use both guys properly this season. They both look explosive running with the football.

Dontayvion Wicks has cooled off a bit the last few days, but he had a nice toe-drag catch along the sideline.

• It was a good day for running back pass protection evaluation, as the Eagles had 1-on-1 drills with backs vs. linebackers.

1) Saquon Barkley had a couple of wins over Zack Baun. He was the only back who showed well in the drills.

2) Jihaad Campbell beat Tank Bigsby a couple of times. Bigsby held Campbell on one rep, and Campbell got around Bigsby with something of a ghost move on another.

3) Jeremiah Trotter had a couple of easy wins over Will Shipley, plus a win over Carson Steele.

Shipley also had a bad moment in pass pro in 11-on-11's. He was late to recognize a blitz by Smael Mondon off the edge, and when he realized that Mondon had a free path to the quarterback, he ran into Tanner McKee's plant leg while trying to get to him. OL coach Chris Kuper had Shipley watch the replay of the rep on the big screen after the play, with some coaching points.

• There was a fun OL-DL 1-on-1 session today:

1) Tyler Steen had a good session. He had wins over Jalen Carter and Ty Robinson. Steen has had a nice camp, and in my opinion could be a guy who makes a leap this season.

2) Cam Jurgens had a couple nice reps against Jordan Davis. Jurgens looks fine to me, by the way. I watched him a little in 11-on-11's today, and his agility seems to be back.

3) Drew Kendall had a couple of wins over Moro Ojomo. On one of those reps he shoved Ojomo to the ground late in the rep. I've mentioned previously that when I did a film review of Kendall earlier this offseason one thing I'd like to see him improve is playing through the whistle, and he has done that this summer.

4) Jordan Mailata easily handled Hunt.

5) We've mentioned that Robinson only has one good pass rush move. That's his club move, which he only tries with his right arm. It's a good move! He beat Jake Majors badly with that move today. Honestly, the Eagles should play him a few snaps per game, and just let him use that move until opposing offenses realize that's all he's got.

6) Willie Lampkin has been a beast in 1-on-1's, but he has gone against backups. Today he went up against Ojomo and I thought he held his own. In 11-on-11's Lampkin was at LG with the 2's, and at center with the 3's. They're giving him harder assignments in 1-on-1's, and they're getting him extra reps to build up his versatility in team drills. Good sign for him.

7) Sixth-round rookie Micah Morris missed some time with an injury, but he can play a little bit. He had one good rep against Gabe Hall, and then one where he held Hall. In 11-on-11's, I saw him make a few good blocks, and they worked him both at LG and RG today.

8) Markel Bell owned Joshua Weru. Two reps, no contest.

9) Cameron Williams got absolutely dusted by Tarron Jackson on an inside spin move. You don't want to get beaten by a guy who's been in camp for like two days, but to get beaten that badly... 😬

10) Landon Dickerson hurt his right leg today. Hard to tell if it was his knee or his lower body. He seemed fine after practice.

• Staying on the blocking theme, Johnny Mundt had a couple of nice blocks today, both on Hunt. The first was on a play in which Mundt came across the formation and blocked Hunt on the backside of the play. The other was a play in which Mundt had to execute a difficult reach block on Hunt, getting to his inside shoulder.

That's the kind of stuff Mundt will be asked to do this season, and he's good at it.

A.J. Epenesa had a really nice win on a pass rush against Jordan Mailata in 11-on-11's. He got around Mailata for a "sack." He also had a nice "tackle" after a checkdown to Grant Calcaterra. Epenesa was also flagged for a defensive holding call on a pass play. Epenesa is challenging Arnold Ebiketie for the fourth edge defender spot.

• I really like what I have seen so far from iDL Byron Young, who had a quick win sack (and safety) on Andy Dalton today. Young is going to get plenty of snaps this season. He has solidified his spot as the fourth guy in the rotation behind Carter, Davis, and Ojomo.

Jake Elliott went 6/6, and is now 25/26 in three kicking sessions. He has made 22 in a row:

 7/308/4 8/8 8/11
 PAT GPAT G PAT G PAT G
 35 G38 G 35 G 38 G
 38 G42 G 38 G 40 G

 43 G50 G 44 G 45 G
 43 G52 G 47 G 50 G

 6/77/7 6/6 6/6

Jake is having a good camp.
