A Pennsylvania man who suffered a heart attack during an arrest Saturday morning in Schuylkill County died after being taken to the hospital, Pennsylvania State Police announced.
The incident occurred in Girardville after state troopers received reports of a man running up and down Main Street shouting and attempting to enter passing cars, WFMZ-TV reports. Troopers made contact with the suspect, identified as 33-year-old Lucas Markus, who did not respond to their verbal commands.
Troopers subsequently tasered Markus, police said. As he was being handcuffed, he went into cardiac arrest. The troopers immediately called for an ambulance, according to a press release, and administered CPR.
Markus was transported by air to Reading Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. An autopsy will be performed at a later date to determine the cause of death.
The incident remains under investigation.
