No summer discount: Teachers get free passes to Philadelphia Zoo during school year instead

Last summer, teachers from Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware and Maryland were eligible for a Summer Break Teacher’s pass at the Philadelphia Zoo, which offered teachers of pre-K through grade 12 free admission throughout the summer.

This year, the summer program has been suspended and redesigned to accommodate teachers throughout the academic year instead, lasting from September through June. Dana Lombardo, communications director for the Philadelphia Zoo, said this was “in order to better accommodate teachers who would like to come to the zoo in advance of their field trip to design their curriculum.”

Registration will begin Aug. 1. The pass is good for single admission between Sept. 1, 2017, and June 15, 2018, and can be used multiple times throughout that period.

“[The pass] will also expand from a weekday-only pass to being available seven days a week,” Lombardo said.

The pass is available to certified and licensed classroom teachers, principals and assistant principals who work in public, private and charter schools. Make sure to bring your teacher ID and keep in mind that parking is not included.
