A woman found Tuesday morning on SEPTA's Regional Rail tracks in Center City is alive and recovering at a local hospital, transit officials said.

Authorities were called to Track 3 in the Center City tunnel between Jefferson and Suburban Stations around 10:25 a.m.

Investigators found the woman injured on the tracks and stopped an incoming train.

When medics determined the unidentified woman was alive, she was rushed to Hahnemann University Hospital to be treated for head injuries.

SEPTA officials said it was not yet clear whether the woman had been struck by a train or how she got into the tunnel.

An investigation by Philadelphia police is underway.
