Mother in custody after 5-year-old boy found dead in West Philly bathtub

Philadelphia police took a 40-year-old woman into custody on Monday after her five-year-old son was found dead in a bathtub at their West Philadelphia home. The boy was found by his father and had suffered a stab wound in the neck. The mother was found cutting her wrist in a bedroom. The incident remains under investigation.

Amid rising COVID-19 case counts, Philly modifies indoor, outdoor gathering restrictions

Philadelphia introduced new restrictions on indoor and outdoor gatherings as COVID-19 case counts are on the rise. While outdoor gatherings will have greater maximum occupancy limits, some indoor venues will see limits decline based on their size. The changes will allow for Eagles fans to begin attending games at Lincoln Financial Field.

Researchers at Penn Medicine have used the venom of the Korean yellow-jacket wasp to develop a promising candidate for a future antibiotic. The research highlights the need for new antibiotics as bacterial strains increasingly become drug resistant, leading to fatal infections in people.

Principal Richard M. Gordon IV of Philadelphia's Paul Robeson High School For Human Services was named the best high school principal in the United States by the National Association of Secondary School Principals. Gordon is one of only three Pennsylvania principals to receive the prestigious honor.

East Passyunk commits to 'overdue' change of Native American logo

The East Passyunk Avenue Business Improvement District will change its current logo of a Native American Indian in a headdress, the group said. The logo, which inaccurately depicts the indigenous Lenape tribes who inhabited the region, will be removed from signage and marketing materials in the South Philly neighborhood.

The PA Breast Cancer Coalition revealed Monday that the annual pink fountain display at the Pennsylvania East Capitol Building in Harrisburg was vandalized last week. As a result of the incident, the fountain required draining and will no longer be pink for the rest of October.

Pennsylvania Second Lady Gisele Fetterman shared a video of a woman who verbally assaulted her at an Aldi grocery store near Braddock, just outside Pittsburgh, on Sunday, Oct. 12, 2020. The woman called Fetterman, a Brazilian native, the n-word as she tried to leave the parking lot in her car.

Delaware authorities have identified Emma Cole as the victim whose body was found at a Smyrna field in Sept. 2019. Brandon and Kristie Haas were taken into custody in Pennsylvania and identified as persons of interest in the ongoing investigation.
