Explosion in West Philly apartment injures one person, police say

The cause of the blast at 45th Street and Larchwood Avenue is being investigated

Philadelphia police and ATF officials are investigating the cause of an explosion that occurred inside a West Philly apartment Monday morning.

An explosion inside a West Philadelphia apartment early Monday morning, injuring a man and prompting a response from a police bomb squad and federal investigators. 

The cause of the blast, at 45th Street and Larchwood Avenue in Spruce Hill, has not yet been disclosed, NBC10 reported. The injured man was hospitalized with a severe hand injury.

Early Monday morning, the bomb squad and members of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were seen moving in and out of the building, the TV station reported. One agent was seen holding a bag as he left the building. 

In October, an explosion inside a South Jersey home was caused by a propane tank leak that was exposed to an open flame. The blast killed a man.
