Budget carrier Spirit Airlines is adding another new daily flight from Philadelphia International Airport in the spring, continuing the expansion of service out of the City of Brotherly Love.

The airline will soon add daily, year-round, non-stop service to San Juan, Puerto Rico, which will receive a boon from vacationers and others heading to the territory for ongoing relief work after Hurricane Maria.

"San Juan is a popular destination for vacationers, as well as locals who have family and friends in Puerto Rico,” said airport CEO Chellie Cameron. “This is great news for travelers in the region who want to visit this beautiful island."

The announcement comes after Spirit revealed last year it would offer seasonal "ultra low-cost" direct flights from Philadelphia to New Orleans.

Service from Philadelphia to San Juan will begin on May 23, about three weeks after the New Orleans flights launch.

Spirit Airlines began service out of Philadelphia in 2013 and has expanded to 12 annual destinations.

"We are pleased that Spirit has added San Juan to their non-stop service from Philadelphia, and we look forward to more flights to more cities," Cameron said.
