Southwest Airlines has canceled nearly 11,000 flights in the United States since Thursday, including dozens out of Philadelphia International Airport. The airline is facing scrutiny from lawmakers and federal regulators as it scrambles to address the wave of cancelations, including rebooking flights and providing refunds. Southwest has attributed its problems to the winter storms that hit much of the nation over the Christmas holiday, but industry analysts say it's also a consequence of the carrier's operational model.

There are a number of ways to recycle Christmas trees in Philadelphia. People can donate them to the Philly Goat Farm at Awbury Aboretum, drop them off at several sites designated by the Streets Department or at several collection events being held by community organizations. Though residents can also place Christmas trees at the curb to be collected with their trash, recycling is encouraged because trees are biodegradable and can be used for mulch, to prevent weeds, to create habitats and trails, and to protect against erosion.
