What are the odds?

Website establishes chances for catching notorious prison escapees

So what are the odds Richard Matt, 48, and David Sweat, 34, the escaped felons from a maximum-security prison in New York state will eventually be captured after a prolonged search?

Try 1/10.

That's the overall figure analysts from one online website established Wednesday.

MyTopSportsbooks.com, a website that reviews online sportsbooks, established odd for various timetables in which the fugitives could be caught. (Gamblers cannot actually place bets; the odds are for informational purposes only).

So far, hundreds of authorities have searched through thick woods, homes and other outposts located near the prison, but to no avail. The convicted murderers have been on the lam for 10 days, eluding hundreds of police searching upstate New York and Vermont.

Here are the odds set by the website :

• Within one month after their escape: 1/2

• Between one and three months after their escape: 4/1

• Between three and six months after their escape: 10/1

• Between six months and one year after their escape: 20/1

• More than one year after their escape: 75/1

The website also set odds on the fashion in which Matt and Sweat will captured:

• Stealing a car: 8/1

• Checking into a hotel: 10/1

• Robbing a bank: 50/1

• With pants down: 1000/1

The fugitives have already beaten the odds on being immediately captured. They long surpassed the timespan that most escapees elude authorities.

Twenty-nine inmates escaped from New York state prisons between 2002 and 2012, the Los Angeles Times reported. None of them lasted longer than three days before being captured. Most were nabbed within 24 hours.
