If you're a serious fantasy football fan, or player, you've already started doing research. And you've no doubt noticed some things.
Among them are some injury reports — those dreaded little red crosses — have been popping up around some extremely important players for fantasy in 2024.
As we'll do from time to time, here is a quick look at the latest news on players like Christian McCaffrey, Sam LaPorta, Puka Nacua, Joe Mixon and other fantasy-relevant players as preseason games begin.
Christian McCaffrey, RB, 49ers
What should you do with McCaffrey, the undisputed projected top fantasy pick? He has a calf injury, a dreaded soft-tissue ailment. It's one that can linger. It's one that can be re-aggravated. Is he still the top player off the board? The 49ers say it's a week-to-week injury that will have him out for the preseason but not any longer.
CeeDee Lamb, WR, Cowboys
After hearing that his contract extension was not a priority, the standout WR and arguably the top fantasy wideout on the board tweeted "LOL." That can't be a good sign. Keep an eye on whether he does report to camp or if his hold-out continues before drafting.
Sam LaPorta, TE, Lions
Tagged as the top fantasy tight end by many, LaPorta has a hamstring injury that is forcing him out of practice. It's expected to be minor.
Puka Nacua, WR, Rams
Out with a "burst bursa sack," according to the Rams, Nacua is expected to recover fully to start the season against the Lions next month.
Jaylen Waddle, WR, Dolphins
No specific info has been made available about whatever is bothering Waddle, but Miami says it's extremely minor.
Joe Mixon, RB, Texans
Newly acquired Houston running back Mixon has been nursing a quad injury in training camp but is expected to suit up soon and participate in preseason activities.
Stefon Diggs, WR, Texans
Another new Houston star, Diggs, was roughed up a bit in a recent practice and is being held out of a preseason game he'd likely have sat out anyway this weekend.
D'Andre Hopkins, WR, Titans
The first injury we've heard about that is somewhat serious, Hopkins' hurt knee is expected to keep him out "several weeks" but will not require surgery.
Jonathan Brooks, RB, Panthers
Tagged as the top rookie running back, Brooks will likely hit the field toward the end of the preseason as the Panthers are cautious with his healing ACL.
Justin Herbert, QB, Chargers
Learning a new offense, Herbert has been sidelined a bunch due to a plantar fascia injury. He is wearing a boot, but could still be ready to start the season in four weeks.
